Employability Fund - Scotland

GP Strategies Training Ltd (GPSTL) provides Employability Fund training programmes, delivering high quality education and training coupled with work experience that unlocks the great potential of people of all ages and backgrounds. This prepares them for their future careers by helping them become ‘work ready’, giving people the skills and experience that employers are looking for.

Employability Fund is funded by Skills Development Scotland.

  • Participating on an Employability Fund training programme with GPSTL offers the learner excellent opportunity to improve their skills and experience and progress into work, further education, a modern apprenticeship or where applicable, the next stage of the Employability Fund Strategic Skills Pipeline.
  • Across all stages and age groups GPSTL achieved a success rate of 66% through their Employability Fund Provision in 2015/16.
  • Each person is assessed to ensure skills gaps are addressed and the training is tailored to the individual to maximise achievement.
  • Employability Fund Provision with GPSTL is open to all.

 

What will the Employability Fund training programme involve?

The training course consists of a combination of SQA accredited training, barrier removal, CV preparation, employer marketing, motivation, self-confidence and esteem building sessions, 1 to 1 job search and an appropriate work placement.

Each learner will achieve either the Certificate of Work Readiness, a work based qualification where employer opinion is integral to the award, or SCQF rated Employability Award, Personal Development and/or Core Skill units in Communication, Employability, ICT and Numeracy.  Where it is at all possible work placements will be tailored to suit the individual’s area of work interest.

 

What happens at the end of the work placement?

Once the work placement is completed, ideally the employer will make the offer of an interview for a position within the business, if one is available.  If no job opportunity or apprenticeship exists at the end of the placement, the employer will provide an exit interview with meaningful written feedback to help the individual move on to a positive destination in the future.

On completion of training GPSTL offers a 6 month after care programme providing information, support and assistance.
